Waste Zero Intern | Recology

The Tone:
This is an internship at Recology, located in Seattle, Washington, with a hybrid work schedule. This Waste Zero Intern role is crucial for assisting with the coordination and administration of waste diversion programs and community-wide services, including public education, communication of services, and audits of recyclable materials from various customers, directly contributing to Recology’s distinct professional challenges to grow a community that sees a world without waste.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Administration: Assists with the coordination and administration of waste diversion programs and community-wide services.
• Customer Engagement: Conducts simple waste audits for customers, contributing to diversion strategies and identifying areas for improvement, and may help implement service changes.
• Outreach and Education: Delivers public education programs to fulfill contract requirements, collaborates on ideas to educate customers and the general public about Recology’s services, and oversees outreach booths at events.
• Data and Reporting: Assists with maintaining a comprehensive file system for customer information, ensures accurate data entry into systems, and produces detailed audit reports.
• Event Management: Coordinates programs and community events, ensuring all materials and collateral are ready, and leads the setup and breakdown of related materials and activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an Entry-Level position. Candidates are required to have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Requires at least 1 year of administrative and events coordination experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in computer programs, particularly the Microsoft Office suite of applications; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team; ability to understand and follow directions; and a valid driver’s license.
• Bonus: Student or Alumni of the University of Washington are preferred, with a strong preference for recent graduates, and related coursework and/or training.
