Fashion Intern | Hems & Brims

The Tone:
This is a remote internship at Hems & Brims, a fiscally sponsored nonprofit organization. Hems & Brims operates with a core mission to empower Black creatives. This is achieved through a comprehensive approach that includes specialized fashion education programs, dedicated mentorship, provision of vital resources, and access to professional development opportunities. In June 2026, the organization successfully launched its inaugural six-month cohort program. This flagship initiative was thoughtfully designed to equip emerging Black creatives with foundational support, essential industry knowledge, and diverse opportunities, enabling them to confidently pursue and achieve their career goals within the fashion industry and other creative sectors. This specific internship position offers invaluable hands-on nonprofit experience and professional development opportunities, playing a crucial role in extending Hems & Brims’ reach and ensuring its impactful programs and resources continue to benefit a wider community of aspiring Black fashion professionals.

• Mission: The primary mission of this role is to bolster Hems & Brims’ community engagement efforts by actively identifying and fostering partnerships, coordinating events, and managing key outreach information, ultimately expanding access to its transformative educational and professional development programs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research Potential Partners: Conduct thorough research to identify and assess potential community partners, educational institutions, corporate sponsors, and relevant event opportunities that align strategically with Hems & Brims’ mission and program objectives.
• Support Outreach & Coordination: Actively support the execution of partnership outreach initiatives, provide essential assistance with event coordination logistics from planning to implementation, and manage all necessary follow-up communications with engaged parties.
• Maintain Key Information: Systematically organize and diligently update all outreach contacts, prepare and curate relevant outreach materials, and compile critical partnership information to ensure accuracy and accessibility for team members.
• Identify Expansion Opportunities: Proactively seek out and propose innovative opportunities to significantly expand Hems & Brims’ community reach and engagement, contributing directly to the growth and impact of the organization’s programs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level candidates are sought for this position. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine interest in the intersection of fashion, education, and community engagement, coupled with a strong commitment to supporting and empowering Black creatives.
• Experience: While no specific years of prior experience are mandated, candidates should possess practical experience or a demonstrated ability in tasks involving comprehensive research, supportive outreach, detailed coordination, or effective information management within an organizational setting.
• Skills: Essential skills for this role include being highly organized, consistently dependable, and proactive in taking initiative. Strong communication abilities are crucial for interacting with various stakeholders, along with the capacity to work effectively and independently.
• Bonus: Interns will be considered for distinct, paid opportunities through Black Fashion Legacy, an educational initiative, should project needs arise that align with their skills and availability.
