This is a full-time summer internship at American Express, located in New York, NY, operating within a hybrid work model. American Express manages a global payment network, enabling 12 billion transactions per year and contributing over $1.5 trillion in network volume across 198 countries and territories. This internship sits within the Global Merchant & Network Services organization, specifically the Global Merchant & Network Pricing team, which focuses on the company’s largest revenue source: merchant discount revenue. The role is pivotal in shaping pricing strategies that encourage merchant acceptance, improve coverage, enhance satisfaction, and ultimately drive profit growth for both merchants and American Express, aiming to establish American Express as an indispensable payments partner.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Pricing Development: Support the creation of pricing approaches or constructs using quantitative data analysis.
• Market Research: Utilize internal and external data, competitive intelligence, and industry research to inform pricing strategies and maintain pricing integrity.
• Financial Modeling: Evaluate business cases for various merchant pricing scenarios, model P&L impacts, and perform sensitivity analyses for decision-making.
• Relationship Building: Foster relationships with partners in the Client Management organization to achieve stated goals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028. This is an entry-level position that offers an opportunity to gain knowledge of the payments industry.
• Experience: Demonstrated aptitude for analytics, including the ability to develop financial models and provide valuable insights from data. Prior experience in supporting strategic merchant pricing initiatives is beneficial for this role.
• Skills: Proficiency with Excel and other MS Office products; strong collaboration skills enabling the ability to build effective relationships; creative thinking, including a willingness to question traditional methods; the capacity to excel in a team environment focused on driving results; and the ability to manage multiple requests while prioritizing effectively based on feedback.
• Bonus: Proficiency with SAS or SQL is a plus.
