Manager, Payroll | Mambu

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mambu, located in Hybrid, Barcelona, Spain. Mambu builds a leading SaaS cloud banking platform, driving the fintech revolution and aiming to make banking better for a billion people. This role is crucial for ensuring Mambu’s global payroll function operates accurately and compliantly, directly impacting employee satisfaction and financial integrity across all international operations.

• Mission: Owns Mambu’s global payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant employee payments worldwide.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Oversee Global Payroll Operations: Take full responsibility for Mambu’s global payroll function, covering all entity locations and Employer of Record arrangements across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas.
• Ensure Timely and Accurate Payments: Guarantee that all Mambu employees and associated Employees of Record receive accurate and timely payments, including correct tax and social security deductions, by preparing payment instructions, uploading to bank accounts, running reports, coordinating with external vendors, and validating payroll journals.
• Maintain Compliance and Reconciliations: Prepare monthly payroll and tax reconciliations and journal entries, ensuring strict compliance with statutory regulations and company policies in all relevant jurisdictions, acting as the first approver for payment instructions, and coordinating with Finance and Treasury teams for funding and forecasting.
• Manage Audits and Vendor Relationships: Act as the primary escalation point for payroll-related issues and queries, manage internal and external payroll and tax audit requests, and foster strong relationships with external payroll vendors and internal customers.
• Lead and Develop the Payroll Team: Lead and develop a team of Payroll Specialists, setting clear performance goals and priorities, contributing to the development and improvement of global payroll governance and controls, and implementing new country payrolls as required.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager level, with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in payroll operations, possessing a comprehensive understanding of a global payroll function in relation to tax and local compliance requirements.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in payroll operations, including working within an international or multinational company managing payroll processes across multiple countries and regulatory environments, with experience in a hybrid in-house / EoR setup. This includes hands-on experience setting up payroll in new jurisdictions and proven ability to lead and develop team members, holding them accountable to meet deadlines.
• Skills: Global payroll operations management, international tax and local compliance, process design, implementation and continuous improvement, team leadership and development, and excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to all levels of the organization.
