Cost Accountant | M&D

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at M&D, primarily based in an office environment. M&D has led the aftermarket in remanufacturing innovation for over 80 years, expanding beyond its roots to partner with leading OEMs and manufacturers like Bosch and Cummins. The company specializes in diesel engine failure analysis and parts, offering both new and remanufactured components across 41+ branch locations. The Cost Accountant plays a crucial role in analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on costs related to inventory, manufacturing, and operations. This position ensures accurate product costing and inventory valuation, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and provides financial insights that drive informed business decisions.

• Mission: This role ensures accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and margin analysis to support financial reporting and business decision-making.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cost Analysis: Maintain and analyze standard costs for products, materials, labor, and overhead.
• Inventory Accounting: Perform inventory accounting, including reconciliations, cycle count reviews, and inventory reserve analysis.
• Variance Reporting: Analyze manufacturing and operational variances, providing explanations to management.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and distribute cost and profitability reports for management review.
• Cost Control Collaboration: Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to improve cost controls and operational efficiencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. This role requires foundational knowledge in cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, specifically in cost accounting, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments. Required experience includes working with ERP systems and inventory management processes.
• Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling; strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; excellent communication abilities to present financial information.
• Bonus: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification, or active progress toward certification.
