Operations Site Manager | Interstate Waste Services, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Interstate Waste Services, Inc., located at one or more sites within our service areas across Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and Connecticut. Interstate Waste Services provides essential solid waste and recycling services to diverse residential, industrial, and commercial customers. This role is crucial for managing the daily operations of an assigned site, ensuring safety, budget performance, and high-quality service delivery. • Location: In-person, one or more sites within company service areas (Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, Connecticut).
• Pay: $155000–$190000 yearly
• Team: Reports to Director of Operations; manages operations managers, supervisors, and operations staff.
• Mission: Owns the daily operations and performance of an assigned site or depots, ensuring safety, budget adherence, and customer service standards are met while driving productivity.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned depot(s), providing daily support to operations managers and supervisors to ensure quality and budget performance.
• Safety & Compliance: Execute necessary precautions, conduct thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, and enforce consistent discipline and retraining to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
• Team Leadership: Oversee all personnel needs for the department, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees, evaluating performance, and providing input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Financial Management: Monitor budgets and operating metrics, diagnose and improve processes and procedures, participate in regular P&L reviews, and develop programs for optimal equipment utilization and cost management.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new agreements, establishing the company as a valued corporate citizen and resource.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate degree (accredited) or, in lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) combined with 2 years of relevant work experience. This role demands proven leadership in operational management.
• Experience: 5+ years of supervisory or team management experience, including oversight of both direct and indirect reports. Additionally, 3+ years of work experience in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations, specifically involving coaching, routing assessments, and leading employees. This must include experience in operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial, and human resources functions.
• Skills:
• Expertise in managing operations and monitoring budget and operating metrics to drive process and performance improvements.
• Strong ability to execute safety precautions, ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards, and conduct incident investigations.
• Proven leadership skills in personnel management, including employee selection, coaching, discipline, training, and performance evaluation, with experience resolving employee and labor relations issues.
• Proficient in preparing and managing budgets, participating in P&L reviews, and developing programs for optimal equipment utilization and cost control.
• Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills for engaging with local city, municipal, and county agencies to foster customer satisfaction and secure contracts.
