Resident Substitute | Frederick County Public Schools

The Tone:
This is a full-time Resident Substitute position at Frederick County Public Schools, located in Frederick, MD. Frederick County Public Schools is a large educational organization committed to fostering personal growth, the development of individual talents, and the acquisition of knowledge among its students. • Type: Full-time (10-month)
• Location: In-person, Frederick, MD
• Pay: $24.32 hourly
• Team: Reports directly to the Principal, Assistant Principal, Building Manager, or their designee
• Mission: To ensure all students have equal instructional opportunities and to create a classroom environment in which teaching and learning are challenging, dynamic, and comprehensive.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Google Drive applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instructional Delivery: Guide students through daily lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, ensuring their instructional needs and interests are appropriately met.
• Classroom Environment: Foster a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning, where time is utilized effectively and a variety of teaching techniques are employed.
• Student Management: Implement fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students, following established school discipline policies to promote self-discipline.
• Educational Guidance: Direct the learning process toward achieving school system goals and objectives by adhering to school board policies and administrative procedures.
• Supervision & Administration: Oversee students in various school settings, maintain appropriate records, and monitor the proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum qualification: An Associate’s degree or 60 college credits. Career level: Entry-Level. Core domain knowledge: Supporting instructional needs and managing classroom environments.
• Experience: Experience working with children is required. Standout preferred qualification includes prior substitute teaching experience in a K-12 setting.
• Skills: Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices, ability to follow written and oral instructions, skill in adapting lesson plans to specific classrooms, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive applications.
• Bonus: Possession of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution, demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills, ParaPro Assessment Test certification, an MSDE issued professional teacher certificate with the appropriate content endorsement, bilingual proficiency (Spanish), knowledge of educational instructional tools/applications, and familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals, and programs.
