Senior Cost Accountant | ZT Systems

The Senior Cost Accountant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial accuracy and operational efficiency of the company’s manufacturing processes. This position directly contributes to optimizing company performance by analyzing cost drivers, maintaining accurate inventory valuations, and providing critical data to support strategic decision-making and financial integrity.

• Mission: Maintain the integrity of the company’s standard costing system and provide detailed analysis of manufacturing performance to optimize operational efficiency and support the month-end close.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Costing System Management: Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the company’s standard costing system, ensuring that all product costs are accurately reflected and kept up to date for financial reporting.
• Manufacturing Variance Analysis: Perform detailed analysis of manufacturing variances, including material price, labor efficiency, and overhead spending, to pinpoint areas for potential cost improvement and operational adjustments.
• Monthly Financial Entries: Prepare and precisely record all monthly journal entries pertaining to inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing overhead allocations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
• Inventory Data Integrity: Conduct regular, thorough reviews of Bills of Materials (BOM) and routing information to ensure accurate labor and overhead absorption, and actively participate in reconciling inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger, investigating any discrepancies.
• Cost Control & Reporting: Monitor and report on inventory obsolescence and slow-moving stock to ensure appropriate reserve levels, while also preparing routine and ad-hoc cost reports for management, highlighting trends in gross margin and production spending.
• Operational Collaboration: Actively collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to provide clear financial insights into operational performance and to support various cost-saving initiatives across departments.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, preparing you for a senior-level cost accounting role focused on manufacturing finance.
• Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience, specifically involving manufacturing performance analysis and the maintenance of standard costing systems.
• Skills: Proficient computer skills including Excel, Monarch, Microsoft Word, and accounting software packages, along with proficiency in 10-key data entry.
• Bonus: Prior experience with SAP and knowledge of SOX 404 requirements is preferred.
