Financial Reporting Analyst | Aston Carter

The Tone:
This is a Contract to Hire position with Aston Carter, located in Virginia Beach, VA. Aston Carter provides world-class corporate talent solutions to thousands of clients across the globe. This role supports a client’s critical SEC reporting, property-level financial statement preparation, and corporate consolidation activities. The position is essential for ensuring accurate and timely external filings, providing audit support, and managing complex accounting projects with precision.

• Team: Reports to a remote leader, collaborating with internal accounting, finance, and auditing teams.
• Mission: This person ensures accurate and timely external financial filings, provides comprehensive audit support, and manages corporate consolidation activities for a client.
• Tech Stack: Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables), Workiva, Wdesk, MRI, AI tools for automation

What You’ll Actually Do
• SEC Filings: Assist with periodic Securities and Exchange Commission filings, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks, S-11s, and S-3s.
• Financial Statements: Prepare standalone financial statements for specific properties as required.
• Audit Support: Support external auditors by completing necessary documentation during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
• Tax Testing: Assist with financial and REIT tax testing, including property acquisition audits (3-14 audits).
• Corporate Reporting: Complete corporate consolidation activities and perform variance analyses to explain financial results and trends.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, with 2+ years of experience in financial reporting at a public company or in public accounting.
• Experience: Hands-on experience with SEC reporting and general financial reporting processes.
• Skills: Strong Excel proficiency, including the ability to navigate large data sets and create/manipulate VLOOKUPs and pivot tables; keen attention to detail and strong analytical skills for variance analysis and reconciliation; robust written and verbal communication skills for audit documentation and cross-functional coordination.
• Bonus: Experience with Workiva or Wdesk platforms; experience with MRI or similar accounting and property management systems; experience utilizing AI tools or automation in accounting; real estate industry experience, particularly with REIT structures and property-level accounting; familiarity with REIT tax testing and property acquisition audits; comfort working on complex, cross-functional accounting projects; professional approach to career progression, able to explain contract or project-based roles in the context of long-term career goals.
