Water / Wastewater Design Engineer | Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering

The Tone:
This is a full-time, primarily onsite role with Robert G. Campbell and Associates (RGC&A), located in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. RGC&A is a leading multi-disciplinary design and consulting firm, founded in 1980 and grown to over 40 employees, specializing in utilities, highways, bridges, site design, surveying, and inspections. This position is crucial for the site design team, requiring an enterprising individual to apply civil and environmental engineering principles to a variety of public and private water and wastewater projects. The role contributes directly to developing sustainable solutions for communities by designing essential infrastructure.

• Team: Works on the site design team, reporting to a Project Manager and collaborating with designers and other engineers.
• Mission: This role designs public and private water and wastewater infrastructure projects, focusing on sustainability and regulatory compliance.
• Tech Stack: HAESTAD (or similar modeling software), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, MicroStation, GIS

What You’ll Actually Do
• System Design: Assist in the design and analysis of water/wastewater treatment facilities, distribution systems, and collection networks.
• Regulatory Approvals: Work with various regulatory agencies to obtain the necessary project approvals and permitting.
• Client Relations & Funding: Collaborate closely with private and local government clients, identifying funding opportunities and assisting with various funding applications.
• Project Oversight: Perform field investigations, data collection, and site inspections, working with site development, survey, and inspection staff to deliver turn-key projects.
• Team Development: Recruit and mentor new staff members to facilitate the growth of the utility design team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET accredited University, or a related technical certificate. This is a senior-level role.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience with a PE licensure, either licensed in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee, or able to obtain licensure quickly through reciprocity.
• Skills: Proficiency with water distribution and wastewater collection systems; ability to conduct hydraulic modeling and calculations using software like HAESTAD; strong proficiency in CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, and/or MicroStation; ability to adhere to project budgets, cost estimates, and schedules, including creating project specifications and bidding documents; and experience working with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
• Bonus: GIS proficiency or a demonstrated aptitude to learn while doing, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
