Loss Prevention Clerk | Costco Wholesale

This role is integral to safeguarding the company’s assets from internal and external theft, effectively reducing inventory losses, and ensuring a secure and compliant operational setting.

The TL;DR

• Team: Reports directly to the Warehouse Manager
• Mission: To protect company assets from internal and external theft, reduce inventory shrink, and maintain a safe and secure operational environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Asset Protection & Surveillance: Proactively monitors the warehouse and its perimeter for up to 8 hours daily, blending with members to detect and deter internal and external theft, and identifies potential safety or security hazards.
• Shrink Management & Training: Analyzes warehouse inventory data to identify shrink, assists in developing and executing action plans to reduce losses, and provides instruction to affected employees on operational practices impacting shrink.
• Theft Investigation & Resolution: Observes, detects, and investigates instances of internal and external theft, including retrieving concealed merchandise, and appropriately detains and interviews suspects when warranted.
• Case Management & Legal Support: Prepares detailed reports for internal review and potential prosecution, accurately logs cases into the Nettrack system, maintains evidence, and provides court testimony as required.
• Safety & Operational Support: Reports identified safety and security hazards, ensures the proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials, and provides assistance to other warehouse departments as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Foundational understanding of loss prevention principles, company security procedures, and relevant legal statutes related to theft and detention.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to observe, detect, and investigate theft threats; experience in preparing detailed reports and managing evidence; and familiarity with operating vehicles or equipment as required.
• Skills: Strong observational and investigative abilities; effective written and verbal communication for reporting and collaboration; proficiency in preparing legal documentation and using case management systems like Nettrack; capability to appropriately detain and interview suspects; and competence in operating vehicles or machinery.
