Travel Nurse RN – Med Surg | AMN Healthcare Nursing
The Tone:
This is a travel Registered Nurse role specializing in Medical Surgical, located in Lumberton, North Carolina. The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Travel, 13 weeks duration
• Location: In-person, Lumberton, NC
• Pay: $1854–$1969 weekly
• Team: Supported by CNAs, Unit Secretary (day shift), 24/7 Tele tech, 24/7 in-house Hospitalist and RT; Charge Nurse takes patient load.
• Mission: Deliver high-quality, direct nursing care to medical and general surgical patients within a structured, supportive hospital environment.
• Tech Stack: EPIC, BD Alaris IV Pumps, Omnicell
What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care for medical patients with conditions such as CHF, Diabetes, Dialysis, COPD, ETOH, IVDA, and general surgical patients requiring post-operative and observation care.
• Skill Application: Perform essential nursing procedures including IV insertion, trach management, chest tube management, NG tube placement and management, feeding tubes, foley placement and management, wound care, dressing changes, and central line management.
• Monitoring & Assessment: Oversee patient conditions with remote telemetry monitoring supported by a 24/7 tele tech who notifies RNs of rhythm changes, eliminating the need for nurses to read or verify strips.
• Collaborative Practice: Work collaboratively within patient ratios of 1:5-6 (flexing up to 1:7 during surge times), supported by CNAs (ratio 1:8-9, potentially 1:12), a day shift Unit Secretary, a Charge Nurse, and 24/7 in-house Hospitalists and Respiratory Therapists.
• Unit Operations: Adhere to established scheduling practices, including every other weekend expectation and assigned holidays, manage RTO requests (up to 7 days by clinical team, more by unit manager), and float to any med-surg or holding/overflow unit as required.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical (MS).
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience; first-time travelers are welcome.
• Skills: BLS certification, CPI or MOAB certification (required prior to start), IV insertion, trach management, chest tube management, NG Tube placement and management, feeding tubes, foley placement and management, wound care, dressing changes, central line management.
• Bonus: ACLS certification, cardiac rhythm interpretation, previous travel nursing experience.
