Staff Accountant | Mate Precision Technologies

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mate Precision Technologies, located in Anoka, MN. Mate is a global leader in metalworking solutions, serving customers in over 85 countries since 1962, and is known for its precision, integrity, and partnership. This role is crucial for supporting Mate’s financial operations through accurate and timely accounting practices. The Staff Accountant will ensure fiscal responsibility and inform business decisions by managing financial analysis, general accounting, and credit and collections.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Analysis: Analyze monthly financial results against budget, identify variances, and assist with annual budget and ongoing forecast preparation.
• General Accounting: Support the month-end close process, prepare and post journal entries, and reconcile general ledger accounts for accuracy.
• Fixed Assets & Payroll: Manage fixed asset accounting using established software systems and record and analyze payroll data for consistency.
• Sales Commissions: Calculate and process sales commissions based on established procedures.
• Credit & Collections: Review and manage customer credit decisions, monitor open accounts, conduct professional collection calls, and maintain accurate records.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and financial analysis.
• Experience: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, is essential. Experience with established software systems for fixed asset accounting is also beneficial.
• Skills: High attention to detail and strong organizational skills are a must. The ability to accurately calculate discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages is critical. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are also required for effective collaboration and customer interaction.
