The Police Athletic League (PAL) is dedicated to fostering growth and development for young adults through its comprehensive “In-Step” program. This program serves as a vital work readiness and internship initiative designed for individuals aged 16 through 19. The HS Intern role is an essential part of this program, enabling participants to acquire practical professional skills and gain valuable hands-on experience. By actively contributing to worksite teams, interns play a crucial role in supporting PAL’s mission to empower youth and prepare them for future career success, directly impacting the lives of young New Yorkers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Engage in Skill Development: Actively participate in the initial 10-week work readiness workshop series, attending all scheduled sessions to build foundational professional competencies. These workshops are designed to equip interns with the necessary knowledge and tools for successful workplace integration.
• Achieve Program Milestones: Successfully complete all requirements of the work readiness portion of the program, demonstrating a grasp of the curriculum and readiness for practical application. This completion is a prerequisite for advancing to the hands-on internship phase.
• Execute Assigned Responsibilities: Undertake an internal or external internship assignment, providing consistent and ongoing assistance to worksite staff. This involves performing tasks as directed to support daily operations and project execution within the assigned department or partner organization.
• Contribute to Team Success: Function as a fully integrated member of the assigned team, offering valuable support and contributing to collective goals. Interns are expected to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, ensuring smooth workflow and achievement of objectives.
• Demonstrate Adaptability and Initiative: Exercise flexibility and creativity in responding to evolving situations and new challenges that may arise within the worksite environment. This includes being able to adjust priorities and approaches as needed to effectively meet changing demands and contribute positively to problem-solving.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Applicants must be young adults between the ages of 16 and 19 years old, and must be current residents of New York City. This program is specifically designed to support local youth in their early career development.
• Experience: No prior professional work experience is explicitly required for this work readiness program.
