MISSION SUPPORT ASSISTANT | U.S. Customs and Border Protection
The Tone:
This is an in-person role at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), located in Lordsburg, NM within the U.S. Border Patrol, El Paso Sector. CBP is a federal law enforcement agency dedicated to securing America’s borders, preventing terrorism, securing transportation systems, and enforcing immigration laws. This position is vital to the agency’s mission by providing essential clerical and technical support, ensuring smooth operations and efficient functioning of critical border security efforts. The role enables higher-graded staff and the wider team to focus on core duties by managing administrative and technical support tasks.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Clerical Support: Provide broad clerical support and assistance, applying technical procedures, methods, and techniques to support the agency’s mission.
• Administrative Coordination: Arrange meetings and conferences, manage a supervisor’s calendar, and coordinate with colleagues on various entry-level actions.
• Inventory & Property Management: Assist in coordinating and monitoring organizational property and maintaining an accurate inventory of office supplies.
• Data & Reporting: Collect and analyze data, monitor and maintain a variety of records, and generate essential management reports.
• Technical Assistance: Assist users within the organization with basic software, hardware, and automation-related issues.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, requiring core domain knowledge in providing clerical support and applying technical procedures within an office environment. No education substitution is available for the required experience.
• Experience: A minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level, performing duties such as assisting mission support personnel with procurement (including preparing purchase orders), monitoring and routing service requests, providing customer service (answering routine questions, directing callers), maintaining calendars for planning, and assisting with property management and space utilization programs.
• Skills: Clerical support, technical procedure application, data collection and analysis, record monitoring and maintenance, basic software/hardware support, and customer service.
