Store Executive Intern (Store Leadership Intern) | Target

The Tone:
This is a paid 40 hr/week internship program at Target, located in Indianapolis, IN, with a start date in Summer 2027. Target is a prominent retail organization dedicated to helping all families discover the joy of everyday life by bringing its vision to life through its core values and culture. This internship offers intensive, hands-on training designed to develop and prepare individuals for significant store leadership responsibilities. The role provides a valuable and realistic preview of the Executive Team Leader (Assistant Store Manager) position, allowing interns to directly contribute to overall store performance and enhance the guest experience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead Store Operations: Spend time on the store salesfloor and backroom, actively leading team members and aligning the team on daily business priorities. This includes ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, helping build displays, and executing daily operational tasks effectively.
• Develop Leadership Skills: Work closely alongside an Executive Team Lead (ETL) mentor and other store leaders to gain a comprehensive understanding of their roles. Interns will have opportunities to step into leading their mentor’s departments, with continuous guidance and ongoing development conversations.
• Drive Guest Experience: Deliver an exceptional guest experience by ensuring team members are knowledgeable and empowered to resolve issues. This involves greeting guests, engaging with them to solve their specific needs, and thanking them for choosing to shop at Target.
• Manage Team Performance: Partner with leaders to provide teaching, coaching, training, and timely performance feedback to team members. Address team member concerns and actively remove hurdles to ensure smooth operations and goal attainment across departments.
• Analyze Business Performance: Review daily business reporting and guest insights to understand, troubleshoot, and follow up on opportunity areas. Interns will plan daily goals, organize plans within the building, and provide summaries of results and priorities to the leadership team, recommending new ideas or solutions.

• Background: Entry-Level position for individuals with a strong interest in pursuing a career in retail management, specifically within Target stores.
• Experience: No prior specific experience is required; however, previous retail experience is preferred for this role.
