Legal Internship / Externship | Arizona Civil Liberties Union

The Tone:
This is an internship at Arizona Civil Liberties Union, located in Phoenix or Tucson. The ACLU of Arizona fights tirelessly in the courts, legislatures, and through community engagement to ensure that all individuals’ rights are protected. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience by contributing to legal advocacy and litigation efforts, providing crucial support to the Legal Department at large.

• Mission: This person supports the litigation work of the Legal Department through legal research and writing.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Research: Conduct legal research and analysis.
• Document Drafting: Draft legal memoranda, briefs, or other legal documents as assigned.
• Litigation Participation: Participate in discovery and trial practice as opportunities arise.
• Factual Research: Conduct factual research and analysis in preparation for advocacy or litigation.
• Meetings Attendance: Attend department, staff, and cross-departmental campaign meetings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Law students who have completed at least one year of law school.
• Experience: Proficiency in internet and legal database research.
• Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing; ability to analyze complex legal issues; initiative to see projects through to completion; attention to detail, excellent organization, and time-management skills.
