Financial Analyst | Ohio Department of Public Safety
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, located in Columbus, Ohio. The department is dedicated to saving lives, reducing injuries and economic loss, administering Ohio’s motor vehicle laws, and preserving the safety and wellbeing of all citizens. This Financial Analyst position is critical to ensuring the accurate and compliant collection and distribution of revenue from various state services.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare Reports: Examine, analyze, reconcile, and prepare accurate and complete accounting records, financial statements, statistical, and accounts analysis reports in compliance with established reporting and procedural standards.
• Ensure Compliance: Review various transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Ohio Revised Code (ORC) rules governing the collection and distribution of revenue for drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, reinstatement fees, titling functions, and other services or fees.
• Manage Systems: Utilize automated systems such as the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System (OAKS) and Business Application Services System (BASS), along with computer software like Word, Excel, and Access, to ensure revenue is correctly collected, deposited, and distributed.
• Manage Transactions: Initiate credit card credits and debits, supporting the proper processing of financial activities.
• Analyze Revenue Controls: Assist in developing, coordinating, implementing, performing, monitoring, examining, and analyzing a variety of revenue management control activities across various sales channels, including telephone, internet, mail registration, deputy registrars, kiosks, and International Registration Plan (IRP).
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional with foundational knowledge in accounting and finance.
• Experience:
• A minimum of 30 months of experience or training in accounting and/or finance, including an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.
• OR completion of an undergraduate core program in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field, combined with 6 months of experience or training in accounting and/or finance, including an intermediate level of experience in spreadsheet software.
• OR 12 months of experience as a Financial Associate (66561).
• Skills: Proficiency in accounting and finance principles, research skills, and intermediate spreadsheet software proficiency. Attention to detail, customer focus, problem-solving, and reasoning skills are also important for this role.
