Business Analyst Intermediate | University of Michigan

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the University of Michigan, located in Ann Arbor, MI. Procurement Services, a division of Finance, manages a diverse selection of goods and services, including procurement, travel & expense, space analysis, property control, printing, copying, mailing services, and property disposition for the university community. This role is crucial for supporting the department’s operations and strategic initiatives across all these vital services, contributing to a diverse, inclusive, and positive culture.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting: Perform core accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, reviewing monthly financial activity, and monitoring gross payroll registers.
• Budgeting: Prepare annual budgets and forecasts for multiple business services.
• Reporting: Complete monthly financial reports, including budget-to-actual, variance analysis, forecasts, and trend analysis.
• Issue Resolution: Identify inconsistencies in financial data, then research and resolve issues.
• System Access: Audit and review access roles for multiple systems to ensure proper control.
• Presentation: Present financial results and analytical reports to various levels of management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: Demonstrated data analysis skills with the ability to develop recommendations and communicate findings. Moderate experience with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets, coupled with the ability to quickly learn new software and functions.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, collaborative interpersonal skills, effective financial reporting, problem-solving abilities, and excellent customer service.
• Bonus: Knowledge of University of Michigan financial practices and processes, familiarity with financial systems and software, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets including complex formulas, graphs, and pivot tables.
