Finance Analyst Co-Op – Foundations | Kiewit

The Tone:
This is an internship at Kiewit, located in Omaha, NE. Kiewit is a large construction and engineering organization, with projects spanning the United States, Canada, and Mexico, aimed at improving and connecting communities. This Finance Analyst Co-Op role is crucial for supporting project accounting and finance functions, making it an integral part of operations. High-performing operations support professionals are the glue that holds various business areas together and act as catalysts for progress, making this role vital to the company’s continuous growth and success.

• Team: Kiewit Foundations Co, Operational Finance department
• Mission: Support project accounting and finance functions, executing critical tasks related to cost control, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, human capital management, and compliance.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Pivot Tables, V-Look Ups

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cost Management: Review costs, quantity claiming, budget structure, and exception reports, making appropriate corrections to ensure accurate reporting for management.
• Payroll & HR Operations: Understand and master the payroll and HR process workflows and systems used for hiring, transferring, terminating, and paying all employees.
• Accounts Payable & Purchasing: Comprehend the process for purchasing goods, receiving and paying invoices, and maintaining internal controls within the purchasing workflow.
• Billing & Cash Management: Understand intercompany and client billing process workflows, the importance of timely and accurate billing documentation, and its effects on cash management.
• Financial Reporting Support: Participate in the month-end close-out process and assist with preparing financial reporting packages for project management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Business Management, and/or an equivalent degree, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Experience: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future.
• Skills: Effective communication (both oral and written), strong organization, interpersonal skills, good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Bonus: Prior experience working in the construction industry. Experience working with Pivot Tables, V-Look Ups, and other key Excel functions. Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a passion for continuous improvement.
