Financial Reporting Analyst | Horizon Bank

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Horizon Bank, located in Michigan City, IN, US. • Team: Reports directly to the Director of Financial Reporting and works closely with the Controller, external audit team, legal advisors, and public company third-party service providers.
• Mission: Supports the preparation of external financial and regulatory reports and assists with compliance-related filings in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Actually Do
External Reporting: Assist in the thorough preparation of quarterly and annual external financial reports, specifically contributing to components of Forms 10-Q and 10-K for public disclosure.
Regulatory Review: Support the meticulous preparation and review of essential regulatory reports, including Call Reports and FR reports, to ensure compliance with all applicable banking regulations.
Guidance Application: Apply established accounting guidance and internal policies consistently to recurring reporting activities, working under appropriate supervision to maintain financial integrity.
Accounting Research: Assist with critical research related to new accounting standards, contributing to the preparation of draft technical accounting memoranda that inform the bank’s financial practices.
Internal Controls: Support the comprehensive documentation and rigorous testing related to internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, strengthening the bank’s control environment.

Experience: Requires experience working collaboratively under the guidance of senior team members, focusing on accuracy and timely execution in financial tasks. Demonstrated ability to gather, validate, and analyze financial data, especially under tight reporting deadlines, is essential.
Skills: Proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, and strong analytical skills for ad hoc reporting. Requires attention to detail for compliance-related filings and robust communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration.
Bonus: Accountability for adherence to compliance standards, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and a commitment to protecting the confidentiality of customer and account information. Valued for exercising prudent judgment in unexpected situations and demonstrating community involvement.
