Finance Intern – Business Unit Controller | RESRG Automotive

The Tone:
This is an internship at RESRG Automotive, located in Troy, MI. RESRG Automotive is an automotive company. This internship supports the Commercial Finance team, providing essential analytical and reporting capabilities. The role is crucial for gaining insights into customer financial performance, aiding in strategic pricing decisions, and contributing to robust financial reporting and forecasting. It offers exposure to various program financials and fosters collaboration across Program Management, Engineering, Operations, and Sales to drive informed business decisions within the automotive sector.

• Mission: To analyze customer financial performance, assist with pricing and quoting activities, and contribute to financial reporting and forecasting processes, ultimately impacting program financials.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing and maintaining comprehensive monthly customer financial reports, ensuring data accuracy and completeness, while supporting critical financial inputs for both customer and internal reviews.
• Pricing Strategy: Analyze pricing data and actively contribute to pricing strategy support, including the crucial validation of financial assumptions for quotes and proposals.
• Program Performance: Support the detailed tracking of program financial performance, encompassing revenue, cost, and profitability, alongside Engineering Change (EC) analysis, tooling costs, capital expenditures, and cash flow monitoring.
• Cost Analysis & Quoting: Assist in collecting and organizing precise data for customer quotes, supporting in-depth cost analysis and margin evaluation to ensure consistency and accuracy across all proposals.
• Data Presentation: Prepare clear and informative reports, presentations, and dashboards using Excel and PowerPoint, while actively collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather necessary financial and operational data for analysis.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely related field, demonstrating a basic understanding of core financial concepts such as revenue, cost, profit, and margins.
• Experience: No specific years of prior work experience are required for this internship role.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; strong analytical skills to interpret financial data; excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks; keen attention to detail and accuracy in all work; effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional interaction; and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Bonus: Prior internship or academic project experience relevant to finance, accounting, or data analysis; intermediate Excel skills, including proficiency with pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions; a genuine interest in manufacturing, automotive, or commercial finance environments; and exposure to ERP systems (e.g., SAP) or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
