Private Equity Analyst | State of Wisconsin Investment Board

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, located in Madison, WI, with flexible hybrid work options. SWIB manages more than $178 billion in assets, including those of the fully-funded Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), and operates at a level typically seen in top-tier global asset managers. The Private Equity Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the growth and management of these significant assets, directly contributing to securing the financial future of over 703,000 WRS beneficiaries.

• Team: Investment Analyst on the Private Markets & Funds Alpha Division team, collaborating with the Head of Private Equity, Portfolio Managers, and Investment Analysts.
• Mission: To source, review, and evaluate prospective investments for the Private Equity and Current Return (i.e. private debt) Portfolios.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Evaluate: Coordinate the timely review of new fund and co-investment opportunities within the Private Equity and Current Return Portfolios.
• Research: Conduct thorough due diligence on new investment opportunities, utilizing research, financial modeling, and participation in meetings.
• Facilitate: Coordinate with internal operations and legal teams to ensure the smooth closing of new investments.
• Data Management: Manage the private markets database (eFront) to accurately track the inflow of investment opportunities.
• Performance Tracking: Maintain detailed portfolio performance records and quarterly returns, including an overlay of benchmark statistics.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree is required, providing a foundational understanding for investment analysis. Core domain knowledge in investment is essential, with a preference for candidates who have experience specifically in private equity.
• Experience: Candidates should possess 2 to 4 years of professional investment experience. Practical experience within private equity is highly preferred, demonstrating a proven track record in the field.
• Skills: This role demands advanced financial modeling skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities for stakeholder engagement, a superb work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong team orientation. A willingness to travel when necessary is also important.
• Bonus: While not required, holding a CAIA or CFA designation is considered a significant advantage for this position.
