Associate, Corporate Strategy | Focus Financial Partners

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Focus Financial Partners, located in New York, NY; Austin, TX; or San Francisco, CA. This Associate position is a key part of Focus’ core strategy team, directly involved in all corporate development and M&A activities, playing a critical role in driving deals from the initial proposal to successful completion.

• Mission: Drive M&A deals to completion by participating in every step of the process from financial analysis and deal structuring to due diligence and comprehensive stakeholder coordination across Focus’ corporate and business line teams.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Deal Process Execution: Actively participate in every step of the M&A deal process, from the initial proposal through to the final closing, ensuring all stages are executed efficiently and effectively.
• Opportunity Assessment & Coordination: Review Confidential Information Memorandums (CIMs) for investment banker-led processes to assess strategic fit for potential acquisitions, and coordinate necessary Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and management meetings with investment bankers.
• Financial Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive financial due diligence and P&L scoping for prospective deals, evaluating financial performance and projections for both internal and external firms.
• Deal Structuring & Modeling: Structure and model complex deal terms, contributing to the financial architecture of transactions, and prepare and present detailed term sheets to relevant parties.
• Strategic Presentation & Coordination: Prepare and present Investment Committee (IC) memorandums to the IC committee, while serving as a central point of coordination across Focus’ Corporate and business line teams, gaining exposure to legal and finance functions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree from a top university or college.
• Experience: 2-3 years of full-time work experience in investment banking, private equity, or strategic consulting.
• Skills: Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, strong analytical capabilities for complex problem-solving, excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement, robust organizational and prioritization abilities, and exceptional attention to detail in all financial and transactional work.
• Bonus: Intellectual curiosity and the confidence to take initiative within a professional setting, coupled with a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving.
