Development Prospect Research Intern | Per Scholas
The Tone:
This is a part-time, temporary internship at Per Scholas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to driving mobility and opportunity in the ever-advancing technology landscape. Per Scholas achieves this by unlocking the untapped potential of individuals through rigorous, no-cost tech training in high-demand fields like Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering, partnering with employers to forge inclusive tech talent pipelines. This role is crucial in supporting the National Development team by identifying philanthropic leaders, corporations, and foundations aligned with Per Scholas’ mission, which has already propelled over 30,000 individuals into high-growth tech careers. It offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development operations and prospect research.

• Team: Revenue Operations team, reporting to the Director, Development Prospect Management
• Mission: Identify philanthropic leaders, corporations, and foundations with a connection to our mission to support the National Development team.
• Tech Stack: Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendars)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Prospect Research: Conduct deep-dive research on individual, corporate, and foundation prospects using internal databases, tools, and open-source intelligence.
• Screening: Analyze key indicators and public giving histories to estimate major gift interest and potential.
• Relationship Mapping: Identify “warm leads” by finding connections between networks and potential major donors or partners.
• Briefing Preparation: Assist in drafting concise, actionable research briefings to prepare leaders for high-level donor meetings.
• Data Management: Maintain and audit prospect data within our CRM and digital filing systems, ensuring dashboards and pipeline reports reflect current information.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking institution, with degrees that align including Public & Nonprofit Management & Policy, Public Affairs, Nonprofit Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public & Nonprofit Management, Organizational Leadership (Nonprofit focus), Public Policy & Administration (Nonprofit track), or Public & Nonprofit Administration.
• Experience: Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week within the Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm window (timezone is flexible).
• Skills: Motivated by mission-driven work, curious mindset, strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to synthesize data, proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendars, etc.), ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong critical thinking and analytical skills, enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.
• Bonus: Familiarity with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) or prospect research tools (e.g., iWave, Foundation Directory), up-to-date on available tech and ready to use tools like AI, experience or knowledge of nonprofit fundraising, moves management, or business processes.
