Intern (Housing) | City of Baldwin Park

This role is crucial for supporting the Community Development Department’s Housing Division, ensuring efficient administrative operations and effective community engagement for housing programs.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time, non-benefited, at-will. Approximately 20 hours/week, not to exceed 960 total hours per fiscal year.
• Location: In-person, Baldwin Park, CA
• Pay: $18.90 – $19.67 hourly
• Team: Community Development Department’s Housing Division, reporting under direct supervision.
• Mission: To provide essential administrative and clerical support to the Housing Division, assisting with data management, public inquiries, and program support.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Administrative Support: Provide essential administrative and clerical support for the Community Development Department’s Housing Division.
• Record Management: Manage and maintain housing records, including data entry, filing, sorting information, and preparing correspondence and other materials.
• Public Engagement: Serve as a primary point of contact, responding to inquiries and providing information and referrals to the community, outside agencies, and internal departments.
• Staff Assistance: Aid professional housing staff in collecting data and preparing various documents such as staff reports, presentations, letters, application forms, and public notifications.
• Field Support: Support housing staff by accompanying them on site visits and assisting with field activities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration, real estate, or a closely related field; or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months) with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of these fields.
• Experience: Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.
• Skills: Possess strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; maintain strict confidentiality; multi-task, be detail-oriented, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing priorities; utilize excellent customer service skills.
• Bonus: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is highly desirable; one year of increasingly responsible general clerical experience is highly desirable; experience working in the public sector is highly desirable.
