Communications, Emerging Talent Intern | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

This role is essential for supporting internal and external communications, helping to ensure smooth operations, showcase Metro-North as a workplace, and enhance the accessibility of vital information for both employees and customers.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, New York, NY
• Pay: $21 hourly
• Team: Internal Communications team, within the Operations Support & Organizational Resiliency department.
• Mission: To support strategic communications efforts that ensure smooth operations, enhance accessibility to information, and highlight Metro-North’s mission and accomplishments to employees and customers.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, Canva, video editing, social media platforms, digital communication tools.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Touchpoints: Oversee customer-facing communication channels, including social media content, web pages, PA announcements, and email notifications.
• Content Creation: Produce content for weekly employee newsletters, quarterly customer-facing newsletters, and manage digital screen updates.
• Project Support: Support strategic projects and agency initiatives such as fare policy updates, fare evasion communications, and new agency policies.
• Digital Platform Management: Update and maintain the employee intranet while also developing engaging content for various social media channels.
• Multimedia Support: Provide video and photo assistance for both internal and external events, as well as agency-wide initiatives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with a minimum 2.8 GPA, pursuing a major in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies, Graphic Design, Web Design/Development, or a related field.
• Experience: Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools, alongside basic graphic design and multimedia skills, including Photoshop, Canva, and video editing.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, excellent written and verbal presentation abilities, project management and research capabilities with adherence to deadlines, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
