Public Relations Intern | Ashford Media Group

The Tone:
This is an internship at Ashford Media Group, located in Chicago. Ashford Media Group is a boutique marketing agency renowned for delivering comprehensive brand development services, including Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Influencer Marketing, and Event Production. Owned and operated by Theresa Ashford, the agency aims to drive brand growth and audience engagement for a diverse client roster. This role is crucial for supporting media outreach, campaign execution, and content creation for high-profile projects, offering significant hands-on experience in the entertainment industry. Interns will contribute to campaigns for leading music artists, cultural organizations, nonprofits, and emerging brands.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Media Research: Research press outlets, editorial calendars, and journalist contacts across music, culture, and lifestyle verticals to identify relevant opportunities.
• Database Management: Assist in updating and maintaining AMG’s comprehensive press database and media contact lists to ensure accurate outreach.
• Campaign Strategy: Support in building media plans, developing target lists, creating outreach grids, and formulating effective pitching strategies for client projects.
• Content Development: Draft and edit a variety of communication materials including press releases, media alerts, talking points, prep briefs, pitch copy, and client communications.
• Reporting & Collaboration: Prepare client coverage reports encompassing weekly or bi-weekly press recaps and single-campaign performance summaries, and collaborate with digital, content, and social teams for consistent communication.

• Background: Student pursuing a relevant field of study, possessing a strong interest in media relations, storytelling, and the entertainment industry. The ideal candidate is culturally aware and has a strong enthusiasm for music.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong writing, editing, and research abilities. A thorough researcher with an eagerness to learn the mechanics of modern Public Relations.
• Skills: Proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office suite; excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective team and client interactions; highly detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple assignments efficiently.
• Bonus: Proactive and collaborative mindset, with a strategic curiosity about media trends and cultural conversations; ability to consistently work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
