Engineer Intern | Hadron Energy, Inc.
The Tone:
This is an internship at Hadron Energy, Inc., with location options in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, or as a Remote position. Hadron Energy is a leading developer specializing in the research, design, and development of Micro Modular Reactors (MMRs). These MMRs are factory-produced, transportable microreactors designed to deliver continuous, carbon-free power for critical infrastructure such as data centers, government facilities, industrial sites, and remote communities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful development efforts in advanced nuclear technology, supporting the company’s mission to foster a brighter, healthier, and more equitable energy future by gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of microreactor development.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reactor Design: Support Hadron’s multidisciplinary technical team across various aspects of reactor design, contributing to the development of advanced nuclear technology.
• Thermal-Hydraulics Analysis: Assist with thermal-fluids modeling and analysis, utilizing relevant tools to ensure reactor performance.
• Regulatory Analysis: Contribute to the assessment and preparation of documentation for regulatory compliance, helping to navigate the nuclear regulatory landscape.
• Mechanical Systems Development: Support the engineering team in the design and refinement of mechanical systems essential for microreactor functionality.
• Manufacturing Processes: Aid in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes, from R&D stages through to commercialization.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Demonstrated interest in nuclear energy, decarbonization, or advanced energy systems, showcasing an understanding of the industry’s challenges and goals.
• Skills: Possess strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills, along with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
• Bonus: Exposure to specific technical tools such as reactor physics tools (e.g., MCNP, Serpent, SCALE), thermal-fluids modeling software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, RELAP5), or CAD and mechanical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Experience with instrumentation, controls, or embedded systems is also a plus. Candidates should also have a passion for climate and clean energy innovation and exhibit a self-starter attitude, eager to contribute effectively in a startup environment.
