Senior Legal Intern (Office of General Counsel) [Juris Doctor Students] | MBTA

The Tone:
This is an internship at MBTA, located in Boston, MA. The MBTA is a 4,065-person organization dedicated to creating a thriving region through a best-in-class transit system. This role provides an opportunity for Juris Doctor students to develop essential legal writing and research skills. Interns will gain substantive knowledge and learn about the practice of law within transportation, government, and in-house settings, contributing directly to the MBTA’s mission of providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation.

• Pay: $24–$28 hourly
• Team: Office of the General Counsel for MassDOT and the MBTA, reporting to an attorney supervisor
• Mission: Support the Office of General Counsel by contributing to legal research, writing, and administrative tasks across various practice areas.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support active cases and ongoing projects within the Office of General Counsel.
• Drafting: Draft and review a variety of legal documents, including contracts, policies, briefs, and other necessary legal communications.
• Administration: Support and participate in administrative tasks directly related to the functions of the assigned practice area group.
• Participation: Attend team and staff meetings, organization events, and contribute to fieldwork or project teams as needed for broader exposure.
• Exposure: Collaborate with attorneys across Commercial Transactions, Employment and Labor, Corporate and Regulatory, and Litigation practice areas to gain diverse experience.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Juris Doctorate student currently enrolled or preparing for the Bar Exam, having completed at least the first year of law school.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required for this student role, but strong academic credentials are expected.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to collaborate effectively, and ability to work independently.
