Law Clerk – Limited Term | Superior Court of Los Angeles County

This is a limited-term role for a Law Clerk at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, located in Los Angeles, CA. The Court operates as the largest unified trial court in the United States, utilizing 582 judicial officers and over 4,600 dedicated employees across 36 facilities. With an annual budget exceeding $1 billion, the Court is committed to providing equal access to justice to the over 10 million residents within Los Angeles County. Law Clerks play a crucial role in achieving this mission by conducting essential legal research, analyzing court matters, and preparing recommendations to facilitate efficient court operations.

• Mission: Conduct legal research and analysis to expedite court calendars and prepare written recommendations, supporting judicial officers in providing access to justice.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct comprehensive legal research on various legal issues and precedents as assigned.
• Analysis: Analyze motions and other matters placed on the court calendar to expedite judicial processes and court calendars.
• Recommendations: Prepare detailed written recommendations and reports based on thorough legal analysis to support judicial decision-making.
• Application: Apply legal principles and statutes to factual scenarios, arriving at sound, well-supported conclusions for pending motions or matters.
• Support: Perform related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of court operations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from an accredited school of law with a Juris Doctor degree, OR current licensure to practice law in the state of California and active membership in good standing of the State Bar of California.
• Experience: Demonstrated capability to conduct legal research independently, analyze motions, and prepare well-reasoned written recommendations.
• Skills:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
• Aptitude for applying the law to facts and reaching sound, well-supported conclusions.
• Proficiency in managing competing priorities effectively and meeting deadlines.
• Bonus: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judicial officers and other colleagues in the workplace.
