Engineering Internship – Summer 2026 | Fehr Graham Engineering & Environmental

The Tone:
This is an internship at Fehr Graham Engineering & Environmental, primarily based in Rockford, IL. Fehr Graham is a fast-growing Midwest engineering and environmental firm with 11 local offices across IL, IA & WI. This role is crucial for motivated Civil Engineering students who are eager to learn and work on a diverse range of municipal engineering and environmental engineering projects. • Team: Reports to a Fehr Graham Project Manager on one or several projects
• Mission: To gain hands-on experience and grow skills in civil and environmental engineering by supporting project teams, ensuring an enriching internship relevant to coursework.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Construction Observation & Surveying: Help with construction observation, including measuring quantities and ensuring construction is completed to standards, with potential opportunities for exposure to surveying.
• Design Review & Editing: Review and edit engineering plans to create a high-quality product that consistently meets Fehr Graham standards.
• Technical Design Support: Sharpen CAD skills, complete basic design computations, and assist the project team in completing various deliverables.
• Regulatory Learning & Application: Learn engineering standards and understand how state and local regulations are incorporated into design through practical office and field work.
• Team Collaboration & Development: Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and many other people in a team environment to foster leadership skills that build autonomy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience: Required familiarity with or ability to read blueprints.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills; possess effective written and verbal communication abilities; capable of working both independently and and effectively within a team.
• Bonus: Candidates should be self-starters and eager to learn, demonstrating a commitment to making an impact.
