Internship, Software Engineer, Service Engineering (Summer 2026) | Tesla
The Tone:
This is a full-time, onsite internship at Tesla. Tesla is a company dedicated to accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, building electric vehicles, battery storage, and solar products. This role in Service Engineering is crucial for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of Tesla vehicles by supporting diagnostic and repair processes. Interns contribute directly to improving current and future products through their work on diagnostic tools and field issue feedback.

• Team: Service Engineering is responsible for real-time diagnostic support, development and improvement of diagnostic tools and procedures, and feedback of field issues to development teams.
• Mission: Improve current and future products by providing accurate diagnostic support, enhancing diagnostic tools, and integrating field feedback into product development.
• Tech Stack: Python, JavaScript, C++, Rust, Go, Linux environments.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Build capabilities for quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle issues remotely with limited customer interaction.
• Develop and maintain diagnostic and repair firmware that runs directly on Tesla vehicles.
• Create intuitive, user-friendly diagnostic and repair tools for technicians, independent shops, and vehicle owners.
• Provide real-time diagnostic support to the service network and relay critical field issues to development teams.
• Troubleshoot failures, improve code quality, and optimize system efficiency, monitoring, and observability.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a graduation date between August 2026 – August 2027.
• Experience: Software development experience, and experience in software testing and automation scripting.
• Skills: Strong proficiency with Python and JavaScript, comfort with Linux environments and system administration, along with excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with C++, Rust, or Go. Hands-on experience with vehicles or other hardware projects, such as Formula SAE or working on personal cars. A passion for troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring, and observability.
