Internship, Fullstack Software Engineer, Fleetnet (Fall 2026) | Tesla
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Tesla, located in Palo Alto, CA. Tesla operates at the forefront of connected innovation, delivering a suite of robust backend services that connect customers to their diverse fleet of cars, robotaxis, robots, and energy products. The company develops and maintains the crucial platform enabling owners to interact with their vehicles and developers to build device-connected applications. This role is vital for evolving the core tech stack to deliver novel features to millions of customers and significantly improve Tesla’s product offerings.

• Team: A small team of experts building the systems that connect Tesla and customers to their cars, robotaxis, robots, and energy products.
• Mission: Design and build scalable, high-availability mission-critical systems and APIs to deliver novel functionality to millions of users and devices.
• Tech Stack: Rails, React, Ruby, Webpack, Go, Kubernetes
What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Design and build scalable, high-availability mission-critical systems and APIs.
• Migrate: Migrate existing systems to new designs with improved maintainability and performance.
• Develop: Build device-side software to manage security, connectivity, commands, and telemetry.
• Problem Solve: Solve complex problems using distributed, asynchronous messaging patterns.
• Collaborate: Work closely with product, SRE, and infrastructure teams to deliver solutions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a graduation date between 2026 – 2027.
• Experience: Proven experience in web development, specifically building highly reliable and mission-critical software, with proficiency in frontend and backend development through frequent production releases.
• Skills: Proficiency in Rails, React, Ruby, or Webpack.
• Bonus: Experience with Go and Kubernetes, knowledge of best practices, information security, and API design principles, and experience with gathering and building requirements from multiple stakeholders.
