About the Role
This Next Step Intern role is part of an intensive, full-time, eight-week program (NSIP) designed to provide individuals with vocational training and on-the-job experience to begin their careers in the homeless services field. Interns will have the opportunity to assist in the day-to-day operations at a shelter supporting the residents, and these on-the-job trainings could potentially lead to stable employment.
What You’ll Do
• Perform the day-to-day monitoring of the residents’ on-site activities.
• Perform hourly inspections of the facility and immediate neighborhood, and document/report any incidents.
• Assist in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events and outings.
• Manage the front desk, answering and directing all incoming calls.
• Greet all clients/guests, complete a health screening, and direct all clients/guests.
• Assist in monthly mailing to clients.
• Perform various cleaning tasks daily, including sleeping areas, dining space, restrooms, stairwells, and all public areas.
• Process new intakes in the computer system.
• File documents and organize client charts.
• Help maintain quiet and safety for clients and staff.
• Provide structure for clients and help organize client activities.
You’re a Good Fit If You
• A High School Diploma or GED required
• Interest in working with the homeless population in a shelter setting
• Currently not employed and open availability to participate in flexible scheduling
Role Highlights & Compensation
• Salary: $17/hr
• Location: Opportunities are available in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan
