About the Role
This position is an Anesthesia Intern role at Michigan Medicine, a world-class academic health system dedicated to improving health through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research, and technology development. The role’s purpose is to prepare and transition a Registered Nurse into a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) staff position, providing essential anesthesia and related care for diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures.
What You’ll Do
• Perform duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provider as a Registered Nurse (RN) until certification and credentialing are successfully completed.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Collaborate with CRNA and/or Anesthesiologist to prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations.
• Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the CRNA and/or Anesthesiologist.
• Contribute to and initiate/maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care.
• Contribute to and maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation.
• Contribute to and complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies.
• Participate in ongoing projects.
• Support perioperative providers as appropriate.
• Provide anesthesia and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and/or surgical procedures to all patients regardless of age under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, once credentialing and privileging have been achieved.
• Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines.
• Handle radiation exposure and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Other duties or projects as assigned.
You’re a Good Fit If You
• Have a current and accurate resume and application completed.
• Hold a minimum of a Master degree with graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program on or before 09/01/2026.
• Have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
• Hold current ACLS and BLS certification.
• Are able to wear appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment including but not limited to lead vests and aprons, powered air purifying respirators (PAPR) and N-95 masks.
• Are self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently.
• Exhibit excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Are able to fulfill required weekday, weekend and holiday obligations.
• Successfully complete the National Certification Exam (NCE) within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program.
• Initiate and provide Michigan Nurse Anesthetist Specialty certification documentation as soon as possible following successful completion of the NCE.
• Successfully complete the credentialing and privileging process through Michigan Medicine.
• Demonstrate satisfactory performance in the Intern role.
• Maintain Michigan Registered Nurse licensure, specialty certification, credentialing, privileging, and current ACLS and BLS certifications at all times.
• Understand that failure to successfully complete and pass the NCE exam within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program will result in termination of the Intern position.
• Understand that the Intern position has a maximum duration of 6 months, requiring transition to a Staff CRNA or other Michigan Medicine employment within this timeframe to avoid termination.
Bonus Qualifications
• Have a scheduled date for National Certification Exam secured.
• Possess five years of adult ICU nursing experience.
• Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.
• Hold a Doctoral degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program in the next 4 months.
