About the Role
ISW’s External Relations Team offers a unique opportunity for candidates interested in non-profit communications with a focus on national security, aiming to train the next generation of leaders by involving them in direct policy-informing work within a fast-paced environment. This program is part of The General David H. Petraeus Center for Emerging Leaders, where interns are considered integral to the team.
What You’ll Do
• Support a variety of communications functions, including media relations and monitoring, writing and copyediting, social media monitoring and management, digital content creation, and media research.
• Create and edit videos, graphics, and written material.
• Assist in special projects and company initiatives.
• Help develop and execute social media campaigns across platforms like X, Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
You’re a Good Fit If You
• Are a motivated and organized college student or recent graduate with demonstrated proficiency in a related field.
• Possess excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
• Have experience adhering to a codified writing style guide such as the AP Stylebook, the Chicago Manual of Style, or the American Psychological Association Stylebook.
• Have experience reviewing the written work of others; this can include peer reviews of papers, work in a college writing center, or other copyediting experience in a professional or academic setting.
• Are self-motivated, creative, and capable of working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Bonus Qualifications
• Have experience with visual content creation and digital communications, including social media platforms.
Role Highlights & Compensation
• Offered as in-person, remote, or hybrid internship modalities for Fall 2026, starting September 8, 2026, and running until December 11, 2026.
• The position is full-time (five days per week), with part-time work considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Interns have an unparalleled opportunity to analyze conflicts in ways that directly inform policy-makers, work directly with analysts, receive classroom education, regular leadership engagement, and utilize cutting-edge technologies.
