The Tone:
This is a Contract to Hire role at Actalent, located in Leander, TX. Actalent helps companies advance their goals by providing engineering and science services, specifically in this role supporting the design and development of custom automation equipment and robotic systems. This position offers an early-career engineer the chance to gain direct, hands-on experience working on real-world industrial automation projects from concept through build and deployment, under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing directly to the creation of advanced manufacturing technologies.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To assist in the mechanical design and development of custom automation and robotic solutions, contributing from concept through deployment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Assist in the mechanical design of custom automation equipment, robotic cells, fixtures, and machine assemblies.
• Modeling: Create and modify 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Documentation: Support engineering documentation efforts, including bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and revision control.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with electrical, controls, and production teams throughout the system development and build phases.
• Support: Assist with prototype builds, troubleshooting, and on-site equipment support as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Mechanical Engineering Degree, suitable for an early-career engineer eager to gain hands-on experience.
• Experience: Proficiency in SolidWorks; understanding of basic mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; effective communication skills and ability to work in a team-based environment.
• Bonus: Internship, co-op, or project experience in automation, robotics, or industrial machinery; familiarity with robotic systems, conveyors, or machine-tending applications; experience working in a custom engineering environment.
