• Mission: Maintain and repair the diverse roofing systems and related structures across the school district’s facilities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Roof Repair & Replacement: Repair and replace a variety of roof coverings, including slate, tile, and rubberoid roofs, to maintain building integrity and prevent leaks.
• Water Management Systems: Install and repair essential rain spouts, gutters, and copper drain pans to effectively manage water runoff and protect building exteriors.
• Structural Waterproofing: Address leaks and waterproof foundations, roofs, and basements to prevent water damage and preserve the structural integrity of school buildings.
• Safety & Maintenance: Install and repair lightning rods and their associated cables, and maintain roof ventilators, ensuring operational safety and proper building function.
• Material & Equipment Handling: Transport materials to and from job sites, operate roofing kettles, cut and roll roofing material, and mop roofing paper onto surfaces, which may require lifting heavy equipment to roof level.
• Sheet Metal Work & Estimation: Perform diverse types of sheet metal work, including soldering on various metals like lead, and accurately estimate material requirements for placing orders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Possesses a considerable understanding of the principles, methods, and procedures of the roofing trade, as well as awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions pertinent to the trade.
• Experience: Three years of experience acquired through an apprenticeship in the roofing trade.
• Skills: Proficiency in the proper care and use of roofing tools; ability to accurately follow both oral and written instructions and prepare reports; skill in performing basic carpentry tasks and diverse sheet metal work, including soldering lead; capacity to estimate material requirements and place orders; and familiarity with current roofing materials such as rubber roofs and durbagum.
