Seafood Department Associate
As a Seafood Department Associate at Weis Markets, you will be instrumental in maintaining a fresh, appealing, and well-stocked seafood department to meet our customers’ needs. This role involves direct customer interaction, meticulous product handling, ensuring department sanitation, and supporting overall store operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service Excellence: Keep the seafood area well stocked and visually appealing. Greet customers warmly, offer suggestions, provide information on seafood preparation, take orders for future delivery, and assist with special requests. Resolve customer concerns promptly and courteously.
- Merchandising and Product Management: Set up attractive product displays and rotate merchandise as needed. Ensure all seafood is fresh, in saleable condition, and accurately priced with proper signage. Handle spoiled, damaged, or close-to-expiration products according to company procedures and remove any non-saleable items to maintain high quality standards.
- Product Preparation and Handling: Accurately weigh and wrap merchandise for customers, applying stickers showing the correct price and weight. Maintain necessary logs to track product freshness and quality. Adhere strictly to all food safety and personal safety codes when handling products or utilizing kitchen tools.
- Department Sanitation: Responsible for the general cleanliness and sanitation of the department. Follow established cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure work areas, equipment, counters, and display cases are consistently well-maintained, clean, and compliant with all health and OSHA requirements. Dispose of trash properly.
- Inventory Control: Assist the manager in controlling inventory through proper ordering practices. Help minimize losses by promptly returning products to refrigeration. Report any shortages or overages to the manager.
- Material Handling (Training Provided): May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries. This may involve the operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained.
- Store Support (Training Provided): May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if proper training has been provided.
- Teamwork and Performance: Contribute to the smooth function of the department and store by cooperating effectively with co-workers and superiors. Continuously strive to improve job performance.
- Safety Compliance: Responsible for the utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to cut-resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company-sponsored footwear.
- Cross-Departmental Support: May be called upon to assist in other departments as needed to support overall store operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

- Education and Experience: Completed or working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). No prior experience is required.
