Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our local library urban farm. This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in sustainable farming practices and supporting food justice initiatives on the farm.
Responsibilities
- Farm and Crop Maintenance:
- Assist the farm manager with essential tasks such as planting, cultivation, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure a well-functioning farm environment.
- Operations Assistance:
- Aid in maintaining scheduling and record-keeping for volunteers, interns, staff, and maintenance activities.
- Participate in data collection activities, including monitoring crop growth, recording weather conditions, maintaining accurate records of farm activities, and documenting the food justice impact within the local community.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the farm team manager and staff to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Collaborate on various tasks and projects as needed to support the farm’s mission.
Qualifications
- Enthusiasm for sustainable agriculture and a strong desire to learn about farm operations.
- Passion for food justice, healthy foods, community-building, and civic agriculture.
- Physical ability to engage in farm-related tasks, including lifting, bending, and prolonged outdoor work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Willingness to adapt and take on new challenges in a dynamic farm environment.
- Basic knowledge of agriculture is a plus, though not required.
