This is a year-round internship at Sandia National Laboratories, offering a hybrid work arrangement with on-site presence required as needed in Albuquerque, NM. This specific role is crucial for advancing the reliability and security of the electric grid by exploring and mitigating sophisticated cyber threats to national infrastructure. Interns contribute to vital research and develop solutions through collaborative projects that have a direct impact on national security and energy resilience.

• Mission: Contribute to a team addressing research problems using a collaborative approach, focused on ensuring our evolving electric infrastructure is resilient to cyber, physical, natural, and related threats for secure operations.
• Tech Stack: Data analytics, visualization, cyber-physical models, Microsoft Office, data analysis, reporting/publishing tools, LaTeX, computer programming (MATLAB/Simulink, Python)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Work: Contribute to innovative projects focused on enhancing electric grid reliability and security.
• Threat Exploration: Investigate and analyze cyber threats targeting the nation’s electric grid and critical infrastructure.
• Model Development: Work with data analytics, visualization techniques, and cyber-physical models to understand system behavior.
• Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify and understand the state-of-the-art in relevant fields.
• Communication: Prepare and present research findings through formal reports, publications, oral presentations, or poster presentations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional holding an earned bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled full-time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0. Requires the ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance, which necessitates U.S. citizenship.
• Experience: Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Desired experience includes computer programming (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python) and documenting/presenting research findings.
• Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, publishing, and using LaTeX. Strong capabilities in computer programming, particularly with tools like MATLAB/Simulink and Python, are highly valued for this role.
• Bonus: Currently pursuing a graduate degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, seismology, nuclear engineering, systems engineering, or related fields. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
