Summer Land Department Intern

This summer intern position offers a unique opportunity to provide vital assistance to the land department, gaining invaluable experience and deep insight into the intricate workings of a land department and its critical role within the upstream oil and gas organization.

Location & Schedule

  • Location: Downtown Houston, TX
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, in-office

Essential Job Responsibilities

As a Summer Land Department Intern, you will actively contribute to daily operations by assisting various team members with a range of crucial tasks, including:

  • Assist in-house landmen with the mailing out of Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) to working interest partners.
  • Provide support to in-house landmen in conducting ownership research.
  • Aid field landmen with comprehensive title research at county courthouses.
  • Assist field landmen in negotiating surface access and road/pipeline right-of-ways.
  • Manage the royalty owner hot line desk, addressing inquiries and providing support.
  • Collaborate with the GIS Tech on various mapping projects.
  • Adhere strictly to the company’s core values: integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment, and innovation.
  • Support and uphold the company’s vision and mission.
  • Maintain an established work schedule, adhere to attendance standards, and ensure punctuality for all work and meetings.

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support departmental goals.
  • Undertake a significant field component, spending at least two to three weeks working directly with our lead broker on Hilcorp’s various leasing or pipeline right-of-way projects. This hands-on experience will provide practical exposure to field operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with an oil and gas company land department or experience with an independent landman is preferred but not required.

Education Requirements

Candidates should be progressively working towards one of the following:

  • A Bachelor of Business Administration in Energy Management, Energy Commerce, Petroleum Land Management, or an equivalent degree from an A.A.P.L. accredited program.
  • A Juris Doctorate (preferred).
