Job Description: Process Control Engineer Coop/Intern

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Process Control Engineer Coop/Intern to join our team at the Big Island, Virginia Mill. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world, hands-on experience in a fully integrated containerboard mill, supported by a dedicated mentor within the process control group.

Your Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implementation: Take ownership of designing and implementing control improvements across the mill.
  • System Support: Collaborate with others to maintain and troubleshoot the mill’s control systems, ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Customer Focus: Support process operations by actively troubleshooting installed systems and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Technological Advancement: Partner with operations to implement new technologies that support advanced manufacturing initiatives.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mill personnel to identify problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Controls and Automation: Be involved in the design, implementation, and support of hardware and software systems for mill process control equipment.
  • Optimization: Contribute to optimization and Advanced Process Control efforts.
  • Safety: Support the mill’s safety program through personal adherence and proactive observation.

In addition to your day-to-day responsibilities, this 12-week program offers a comprehensive learning experience:

Our Team:

The Georgia-Pacific Big Island Mill is a fully integrated containerboard mill located near Lynchburg in central Virginia, specifically in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Employing approximately 300 individuals, the mill boasts a strong track record of performance and benefits from extensive capital investments. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to innovation and continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications (Who You Are):

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a college degree program in either Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Work Authorization: Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. (This role is not eligible for VISA Sponsorship).
