What We Look For In a Middle School Math Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery:
  • Deep knowledge of core middle school math concepts including integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, order of operations, algebraic expressions, basic equations, geometry fundamentals, measurement, and data analysis.
  • Ability to effectively explain number sense, coordinate plane plotting, and mathematical reasoning.

  • Emphasis on conceptual understanding through real-world contexts, including examples from recipes, budgeting, sports statistics, and everyday applications.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with middle school math standards for grades six through eight.
  • Understanding of common student challenges, such as fraction division, negative number operations, and solving multi-step equations.
  • Adept at adapting instruction using concrete-pictorial-abstract progression, interactive activities, and targeted scaffolding to support developing abstract reasoning, build confidence, and foster mathematical maturity.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
  • Skill in explaining material using multiple approaches.
  • Capacity to adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Communication & Engagement:
  • Strong communication skills.
