Entry-Level Systems Engineer – Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) | Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL)

The Tone:
This is an entry-level position at Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), located in North Logan, UT. SDL delivers advanced multi-domain solutions across satellites, sensors, ground systems, and autonomous systems to protect national security and enable scientific discovery. This role is essential for supporting Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts on government programs, contributing to mission-critical solutions in areas like cyber operations, information architecture, strategic deterrence, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). You will work in a digital engineering environment, specializing in modular open architecture designs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Modeling: Develop and maintain system models using SysML in Cameo Systems Modeler.
• Documentation: Generate model-based documentation to support system design reviews and program milestones, and assist with proposal and program documentation.
• Requirements Management: Support requirements management activities, including importing, organizing, and refining technical requirements.
• Architecture Artifacts: Create and maintain system architecture artifacts, including block definition, internal block, activity, sequence, state, and parametric diagrams.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support system integration and participate in MBSE toolchain evaluation and continuous process improvement activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline, completed or completing within 6 months of the posting date. This is an early career role.
• Experience: No more than 5 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated academic or professional experience applying SysML in a model-based systems engineering environment, specifically using Cameo Systems Modeler or comparable MBSE tools.
• Skills: Familiarity with systems requirements development and management; ability to produce clear technical documentation; strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
• Bonus: Practical experience developing and maintaining production-level SysML models; experience supporting government or defense-related engineering programs; familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Visure, or JAMA; exposure to system integration activities; programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB); or familiarity with Linux-based or version-controlled development environments.
