Early Career Structural Engineer

We are seeking an Early Career Structural Engineer to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN. In this role, you will be a vital participant in the design process, contributing to the development of critical infrastructure that improves communities across the United States. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing design calculations for structures.
  • Contribute to the creation of design drawings for structural components.
  • Help prepare construction specifications for structures made of steel, concrete, and masonry.
  • Support the Oak Ridge, TN office on various projects.
  • Learn and apply established quality procedures, ensuring all work is procedurally compliant.
  • Utilize new software as necessary for successful project execution.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Sole US citizenship required (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations).
  • B.S. in Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
  • 0-3+ years of post-education experience.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) certificate obtained or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to follow and implement established quality procedures and ensure that all work accomplished is procedurally compliant.
  • Ability to learn new software as necessary for project success.
  • Competence using Microsoft Office software.
  • Reside within a commutable distance from our Oak Ridge, TN office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, or MicroStation software.

Work Location

This position will be worked full-time in Oak Ridge, TN.

Essential Functions

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This role involves intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements are limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc., with a longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation, utilizing both right and/or left hands. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, as well as below the shoulder, for supplies. No foot controls are necessary.

Must be alert to equipment in the field. There will be occasional travel and work near construction job site equipment when in the field. Occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.

Other Essential Functions:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Must take and pass a pre-employment drug and background check.

Compensation Details

The estimated compensation range for this position is $70,000 – $95,000.

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
