Teacher

Starting Salary: $48,700

Additional Referendum Money: Available for the next four years, starting at $7,730 for the 24-25 school year. Teachers hired during the school year will receive a prorated supplement based on the date of hire.

Job Summary

The Teacher guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals, in harmony with the District’s objectives. This role involves establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicating these objectives to students. The teacher will employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the provided location’s physical limitations and the diverse needs and capabilities of individual students or student groups. A key responsibility is to implement, through instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education and its instructional goals and objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the designated locations and at specified times.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Prepares thoroughly for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request of their immediate superior.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Supervises students diligently to protect them from conditions harmful to learning and/or to their mental and/or physical health and/or safety. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as mandated by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as required.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Certifications & Licenses: Must be eligible for Florida Department of Education Certification in the appropriate subject area.

  • Strong knowledge of subject content.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading papers, preparation of lesson plans, etc.
  • Ability to effectively manage students.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
