Job Summary

This internship position offers exposure to critical aspects of healthcare, including healthcare governance, organizational practices, and the complex laws and regulations specific to the healthcare industry. Duties may encompass areas such as human resources, finance, healthcare laws and regulations, healthcare management, and business administration. The intern will be responsible for successfully completing assignments and projects as assigned by their preceptor across various department and system rotations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Age: Must be 16 years of age.
  • Education: A current student in an accredited high school or high school program.
  • Licenses/Certifications: None required.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Must be detailed-oriented, organized, and possess multi-tasking abilities.
    • Strong computer software skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and presentation software.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs a variety of entry-level administrative staff duties related to administrative regulations, policies, processes, procedures, systems, reports, surveys, and forms, while learning the fundamentals of business acumen.
  • Participates in analytic studies by conducting routine research, identifying samples, and assembling and compiling data in well-defined areas related to administrative regulations, policies, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms.
  • Applies basic statistical and management analysis techniques, or, with detailed instructions, advanced statistical and management techniques in analyzing data.
  • Assists in writing instructions, procedures, guides, and manuals to describe and improve administrative, technological, and operational methods and systems.
  • Researches problems, discrepancies, and responds to routine inquiries related to the business, technological, and operational activities of the assigned department.
  • Prepares reports, presentations, operational documents, and correspondence containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content related to business, technological, and operational activities, subject to review and editing by higher-level staff members.
  • May perform a wide variety of paraprofessional, technical, and clerical tasks during peak workload periods or in the absence of assigned staff.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
