• Team: Community and Economic Development (CED) Department
• Mission: To improve the economic mobility and resilience of people and places in the Southeast by conducting research, creating data tools, engaging stakeholders, and tracking and elevating issues, ultimately connecting researchers, businesses, and policymakers with innovative approaches to creating economic opportunity through education and employment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze data and report on various community and economic development issues to support research papers and departmental projects.
• Research & Literature Review: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform ongoing research and enhance the department’s understanding of relevant topics.
• Event Coordination: Assist with the meticulous preparations for and hosting of virtual events and conferences.
• Content Development: Write and review articles for online publications such as Partners Update or Workforce Currents.
• Survey & Strategy Support: Assist in the development of surveys and their analysis, and support long-term department strategic planning initiatives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Required to be a currently enrolled graduate student in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in urban planning, urban studies, public policy, public administration, economics, geography, business, sociology, or a closely related field, demonstrating a strong interest and relevant coursework in community and/or economic development topics.
• Experience: Must be committed to working up to a 40-hour work week for 10-12 weeks during the summer months, with the possibility of continuing part-time for up to 20 hours a week in the fall, and must maintain graduate degree program enrollment throughout the internship duration.
• Skills: Possesses excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills; strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Office 365) and statistical software (R or Python), including familiarity with libraries for data management and manipulation (e.g., dplyr, pandas); and knowledge of public data sources (ACS, CPS, QCEW, IPEDS) and microdata. Essential qualities include working well independently and collaboratively within a team, being thorough and detail-oriented, and demonstrating effective listening, questioning skills, and initiative in suggesting project approaches.
• Bonus: A minimum cumulative GPA above 3.0 in an academically rigorous curriculum is required.
